Earth, Our Environment - Class Notes
Perhaps the most under appreciated aspect of science is that it works. One way of viewing the goal of science is a quest to see "unity in variety".
Consider the following natural phenomena:
Each is an example of a wave, and each obeys the same form of mathematical law, described quite compactly by the wave equation (e.g. in one-dimension)
We rely on the broad applicability of a few general concepts to understand the many processes that compose nature.
