Earth, Our Environment - Class Notes
Chapter 1, The Changing Planet - 07
Nature and Scale

In general, we live for a few decades, and for most of human history, few people traveled more than a few hundred miles from home during their entire lives. We best understand the familiar, which includes objects that occur in a relatively small range of sizes.

However, we have developed reasoning skills that enable us to comprehend and study nature at scales that are very different from everyday experience.

With effort, we can appreciate the great distances of the Solar System and Space.
